Nutrition counseling is more than just nutrition education or being given a meal plan to follow. Nutrition counseling includes those things but is also a safe space for you to open up about all of the barriers and obstacles that prevent you from making the changes you want to make for your health and your lifestyle.
Like all counseling, nutrition counseling is most effective when done in a series of sessions as opposed to a one-time meeting. In your first session, your dietitian will get to know your goals, vision, health and diet history, your lifestyle, and your personality and then you will set your first step behavior-change goals by the end. Each session you will review progress, new challenges, and continue to set new goals as a progression towards your overall goal.
During your time with your nutrition counselor, you will discuss behavior changes regarding your diet, exercise, overall lifestyle practices, stress management and self-care, and anything else that affects your overall wellness.
